Elections for the presidency took place at the 41st GAISF General Assembly. On 27 April in Beijing, the General Assembly elected Hein Verbruggen as President of GAISF for a 4-year term of office. Hein Verbruggen is Vice-President of the UCI (cycling), IOC Member and Chairman of the IOC Coordination Committee for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

The new GAISF Council is elected and is composed as follows: President: Hein Verbruggen, Vice-President of UCI (cycling) Members: Denis Oswald, President of ASOIF and of FISA (rowing) Tamas Ajan, President of IWF (weightlifting) Gian Franco Kasper, President of FIS (skiing) Jan Fransoo, President of ARISF and of IKF (korfball) Antonio Espinos Ortueta, President of WKF (karate) Ron Froehlich, Pressident of IWGA (world games) Paul Hoglund, President of JJIF (ju-jitsu) Vice-Presidents: Tamas Ajan, President of IWF (weightlifting) Ron Froehlich, President of IWGA (world games) Director General: Christine Dominguez New International Sports Federations joined the Association - On 27 April in Beijing, the 41st GAISF General Assembly accepted 4 new members within the Association. The ICMG, International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, was accepted as an Associate Member. The IFSC, International Federation of Sport Climbing, the WDF, World Darts Federation and the IDBF, International Dragon Boat Federation, were accepted as Members. The Association counts to date 104 International Sports Federations and Organisations.
